Argentina occupies position 36 in the list of the 230 countries of the Human Development Index (HDI) made by the United Nations. It is the first Latin-American country and it is placed above the average position of Asian countries.
The population of Mendoza is the result of the major immigration waves of the last 150 years. Between the end of the XIX century and the beginning of the XX century, 7,000,000 immigrants arrived in Argentina, making our country the largest immigrant receptor of Latin-America and the second largest in the world.
An important part of this migratory mass was attracted by Mendoza, which in 1914 had 31.8% of immigrants (mostly European) among its inhabitants.
Thus, the resulting social texture, although heterogeneous in its origin, is quite homogeneous in its present composition, largely due to mixtures.
The National Constitution -clearly inspired on liberalism- and the cultural development of the population have created an atmosphere of religious tolerance where, although the catholic religion predominates, all the inhabitants enjoy freedom of worship and a public, laic and free education
